| CALL FOR PROPOSALS: CODE SOUVENIR |

| Following the CODE International (City of Design) Poster Competition, the Ville de Montréal is launching the CODE Souvenir call for proposals, aimed at selecting a number of existing gift items to be published in a catalogue. The goal is to give institutional buyers easier access to items by Montréal designers, in various price ranges. CODE Souvenir is the second activity for the cities of design in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. |

DESIGN COMPETITION: new recycling bin unveiled

| Based on a pilot project conducted in three boroughs, the Ville de Montréal came up with an enhanced concept that maintains the original character of the earlier prototype while providing great durability, in particular through the use of proven technologies and plastics. The new bin was developed jointly with the Laboratoire design et proximité of UQAM's École de design and the firm Instadesign. The initial pre-production and moulding stages are scheduled for this year. |

| CONFERENCE: Montréal to host the SEGD annual conference |
| |
| Members of the Society for Environmental Graphic Design (SEGD) will be in Montréal June 1–4, 2011, for the 30th edition of its major annual meeting (being held outside the United States for the first time). This is the only international convention devoted to communication design in built environments. A number of multidisciplinary speakers have already been announced, including Andreas Uebele, Ruedi Baur, Michel Dallaire, Garth Walker, David Gibson and Renée Daoust. |

| PR@M – COMMERCE: two new projects by Surface 3 and ID4 design+gestion |

| PR@M – Commerce is a Ville de Montréal program for assisting commercial renovation. It covers up to 50% of the participating designer’s professional fees. Among recently completed projects are De Farine et d'Eau Fraîche, a fine-pastry shop newly opened on Amherst Street, and iBurger, a bistro on Metcalfe Street that combines upscale fast food with advanced touch-screen technology. |
