DESIGN MONTREAL OPEN HOUSE: The registration period for the 5th anniversary edition ends on November 30
 
Design professionals who have won awards in 2010 (or in 2009 in the case of biennial awards) are invited to open the doors to their office or atelier and/or present an award-winning project (e.g., residence, building, park) that can be visited in situ.  The 5th anniversary edition will be held on June 4-5, 2011.
 
 
BUS SHELTER DESIGN COMPETITION: Unveiling of the prototypes by the STM
 
The first of three bus shelter prototypes designed by the Leblanc + Turcotte + Spooner consortium and manufactured by Provincial Sign Systems has been unveiled by the Société de transport de Montréal.  This design competition stems from a commitment made by the Mayor of Montréal in 2008.
 
 
PROCLAMATIONS: The City of Montréal reaffirms the importance of architecture and urbanism as essential elements of quality of life in an urban setting
 
The City of Montréal joined voices with the various associations, professionnals and citizens that recently promoted the World Day of Architecture (October 4) and the World Town Planning Day (8 novembre).  These proclamations acknowledging the different design sectors follow prior announcements linked to interior (May 29) and industrial (29 juin) design.
 
 
CONFERENCE: UNESCO Creative Cities Network 2010 Shenzhen International Conference
 
The Shenzhen conference (December 6-9) will be the first UNESCO Creative Cities Network meeting to be held in China.  It will address questions of “new technology, new media and creative city synergy.”   René Barsalo, Director, Research & Strategy at the Société des arts technologiques (SAT) and Martine Primeau, Divisional Manager, Marketing and Investment Support at the City of Montréal will attend.
 
 
CONFERENCE : Design and mobility in creative cities
 
Creativity and innovation, embodied by design, are at the core of new strategies to attract people and organizations to specific territories.  This question will be explored on November 23, in Saint-Étienne, during a conference entitled “Design and mobility in creative cities,” co-organized by Saint-Étienne’s Cité du design and the City of Montréal. Melissa Mongiat, corecipient of the 2010 Phyllis-Lambert Design Montréal Grant, will give a lecture.
 
 
SEMINAR: Commerce and Design – results from international initiatives
 
In preparation for the conference “Commerce Design et Ville”, to be held in Montréal in 2011, a group of experts hailing from cities member of the Commerce Design network will participate to a seminar (by invitation) held as part of the 2010 Saint Étienne International Design Biennial.
 
 
EXHIBITION: Finalists projects in the NDG Cultural Center Architecture Competition
 
The exhibition about the finalist projects in the architecture competition for the future Notre-Dame-de-Grâce Cultural Centre runs until January 16, 2011, at Maison de la culture Notre-Dame-de-Grâce. Five videos (produced by TOXA) explaining the projects as well as the general objectives of the architecture competition are presented as part of the exhibition.
 
 
LAUNCH: Mission Design unveils a new action-oriented tool
 
On November 23, Mission Design will launch a Quebec website “aimed at promoting and enhancing architecture, design and urban planning while serving as virtual gathering place.” The Design Montréal office will act as partner by circulating news for the local design community via the new website.
