The public presentation by the winners of the results of the Ideas Competition for the redevelopment of the area around the Champ-de-Mars metro station; Wednesday May 26th 2010, at City Hall. A short video has been prepared for each winning project.
This Shuko, initiated by the Mayor within the framework of the Pecha Kucha Night For Elected Officials on September 30th 2008, aimed to explore and illustrate different develpment possibilities based on the hypothesis that the Ville-Marie Highway would be covered and the exit ramps would eventually be moved.
With this exercise in conceptualization, the City of Montreal wishes to enrich the reflexion on the use of public spaces, the key urban issues related to the development of such a space and the appropriation of these spaces by the citezens.
See also a general video on the competition and this event which was attended by all the stakeholders in the quality of the design of buildings and the urban environment.

This Ideas Competition proposed to conceive and illustrate various possibilities for the redesign of the area around Champ-de-Mars metro station, while enhancing Marcelle Ferron’s stained glass windows within the Hypothetical project of capping Ville-Marie highway and moving the highway ramps.
The organizers compiled entries from 216 individuals and teams, mainly from Québec but also from five other provinces.
* eligible proposals received: 78
* registrations from outside Quebec: 13%
* professional registrations: 64 %
* student registrations: 36 %
Consistent with the expectations for an ideas competition, the proposals studied were at a schematic stage only, and they raised many questions regarding the use of the public spaces. The main objective of the competition—to inform thinking by the public bodies, groups, citizens and professionals involved regarding the future of the district—has therefore been achieved.
We invite you to discover the three winning proposals in the professional category and the five selected in the student category, as well as the other 70 submissions.
Thank you very much to all who participated!
