The event was organized jointly by Le Sud-Ouest and Design Montréal, in keeping with detailed planning for Griffintown included in the Master Plan and the city’s goal of promoting design in development throughout its territory.
Over the four-day workshop, three interdisciplinary teams of private-sector professionals, moderated by a panel of experts, drew up proposals for redeveloping three target sites: the site of the École de technologie supérieure, Rue des Seigneurs and the surrounding area, and the block north of rue Ottawa near the former Canada Post sorting centre.
The event also included various activities for the general public, giving people a chance to learn more about the past and present of Griffintown, including a very successful guided tour by L’autre Montréal. Close to 150 people turned out to hear about the results of this original brainstorming and urban planning experience, at a public meeting on October 26. Members of the public were also invited to visit an exhibition on the results of the exercise, from November 17 to December 2, at a local art gallery.
